Most Common Interview Mistakes ,Oops!

In our last post we discussed about Job Interview Success and Tips for Interviews. Now here we are going to discuss interview mistakes that we commonly do in our interview.

Do not Discuss on salary before getting a job offer

In an interview sometimes you may be asked about salary needs. If you tell an amount which is lower than what the employer is planning to pay then most likely he may not pay you more and you may lost potential income. If you tell an amount that is too high then the employer may be that you will not to take the job at the salary. After receiving job offer, it is perfectly acceptable to negotiate on salary - generally an employer will not retract his job offer. But discussing on salary before the offer is given must be avoided .



Not Recognizing your strengths and weaknesses.

Only you can understand your strengths and weaknesses. You must be able to specify your strengths and your weaknesses.

Arriving Late

Running late not only suggests poor time management skills, but shows a lack of respect for the company, the position and even your interviewer.Budget your time so that you make it to the interview five to ten minutes early.

Not Knowing Anything About the Company

When you walk into a job interview, knowledge of the company's history, goals and current activity proves to the interviewer that you are not only prepared for the interview, but also that you want to be a part of the organization.

Talking Too Much

Keep your focus on the job at hand and, even if a personal issue arises, concentrate on discussing your qualifications and skills .

Bad-mouthing for Your old Employer

You should not look like a complainer. Do not bad - mouthing for your old employer .

Use keywords in your resume that match with what the employer is looking for :


Review the advertisements posted and use the key words in your resume to match with what the employer is looking for. You must showcase to the employer your relevant skills and qualification to suit that particular position.



Think of what makes you unique :


Remember your resume is marketing a brand called you. It is a tool that you could use to your benefit if it is crafted well. See that you enlist your features and benefits that they just can’t be missed. Think of what makes you unique and definitely include that. Make sure that all the relevant information is there.

Number of Page in Resume:


Recruiters never read your resume; they do a spot check of your resume.Lengthy resume does not make you more impressive, and there are many other reasons to keep your resume short too.There is a good practice to keep your resume to one page when you have less than 5 years of experience or at maximum two pages .



Use an appropriate font size:


See that your resume reads easily. Format it carefully, use an appropriate font which is no smaller than 10.

Use Tables in Your Resume:


Use tables to show your year wise qualifications. It helps interviewer to understand your achievements easily.

Use of Bullets:


Use bullets in your resume to show . It gives good visibility to the interviewer .

Add Your Projects:


Candidates must add their top 3 - 4 projects in their resume either academic project or industrial projects.  

Get someone else to review your resume:


Ask someone to review your resume before you send it so that any flaws can be picked out and rectified. Also ask them to ask you questions based on your resume so you can practice answering convincingly.



Create an email proof formatting:


It is very likely that you will end up sending your resume via email to most companies. Apart from having a Word document ready to go as an attachment, you should also have a text version of your resume that does not look disfigured in the body of the email or in online forms. Attachments might get blocked by spam filters, and many people just prefer having the resume on the body of the email itself.

Employers look for a person who will be a pleasure to work with and who can work into the company’s work atmosphere just as much as they look for skills. Keep that in mind when conversing with potential employers.


Remain positive during the interview


During the interview try to remain as cool as possible. Ask for clarification if you're not sure what's been asked and remember that it is perfectly acceptable to take a moment or two to frame your responses so you can be sure too fully answer the question.

Do not speak negatively


Do not speak negative about your
current or  former employer or give any confidential information that you shouldn't. We have seen people lose out on jobs by criticizing former employers or by mentioning things about their current employer that they should not have.

Practice Makes Perfect


Have a career counselor or friends and family ask you a list of questions and give you feedback.Film your responses and review your performance.

If appropriate ask questions


After completing major part of interview , if appropriate, ask some questions , they will know enployer your interest in the job .

Do some research before interview
